Title: Progress Report for Quarter Ended 20 June 1974 EL 598 Barney Hill
Title Holder / Company: Carpentaria Exploration
Report id: CR1974-0127
Tenure: EL598
Year: 1974
Abstract: During this quarter drilling continued in the W-Fold - Wickens Hill area to establish the limits of continuous mineralization. Two diamond drill rigs were used. A third rig arrived in the area and started a programme of diamond drill holes to obtain information on the stratigraphic developments underneath the soil-covered Emu Plains north of the H.Y.C. deposit. Since the previous quarterly report was submitted seven more diamond drill holes have been finished, bringing the total drilling in the area to 5449 m. Wickens Hill No. 8 D.D. hole (9500N, 9800E), the most westerly hole on the north limb of the Wickens Hill syncline, intersected a strongly reduced sequence of pyritic shales which carried only minor mineralisation. Three holes, Wickens Hill No. 9, 10 and 12 were drilled along the axis of the syncline. Assay results are available for the first two holes and show a gradual decrease in grade of mineralisation away from the nose of the syncline. Visual estimates of Wickens Hill No. 12 D.D. hole indicate a further drop in metal content. The southern extent of mineralisation was tested by Wickens Hill No. 11 D.D. hole (9200N, 9900E). It intersected only minor mineralization. Results in the W-Fold syncline have been rather disappointing. W-Fold No. 9 D.D. hole (10 200N, 10 200E) contains a 2.6 m intersection of 9.1% zinc and 3.1% lead at the top of the mineralized horizon, but further down the hole values are generally below 2% zinc.
