Abstract: | The Aston Hill and Wandie Line Prospects in the Wandie Joint Venture Area were explored in detail in the 1988 field season. This work included detailed mapping and sampling of old workings, additional trenching and further channel sampling, and a major drilling program, in which a total of 5502m of RC drilling and 394m of diamond drilling was completed. Wide zones of anomalous gold were outlined by surface sampling at both areas. In general, these zones were either, not detected, or the grade and/or width of the zone in the subsurface was significantly downgraded by the drilling programs. The most probable explanation is that the gold values are enhanced at the surface (by residual concentration?) from the underlying weakly auriferous lithologies. It is concluded that the potential for the Wandie Line and Aston Hill Prospects to contain economical gold mineralization of interest to RGC, has been thoroughly tested and no further exploration here is proposed. However, large parts of the Wandie Project Area remain virtually unexplored for gold mineralization, utilizing modern techniques. This will form the focus of future investigations within the Project Area. |
