Abstract: | Exploration Licence 2450 is one of a number controlled by Talmina Trading Pty Ltd in the Howley area. The licence was first granted to JW Benger and N Wigg in December 1980 and two square minutes were relinquished in December 1982. The relinquished area is still under the control of Talmina Trading. The lease prior to relinquishment straddled a synclinal axis, with the Burrell Creek Formation in the centre and the underlying Mt Bonnie, Gerowie Tuff and Koolpin Formations occurring to the east. Rocks crop out only near the eastern boundary with the rest of the licence covered by an alluvial plain. Two major targets for gold mineralization are evident within the lease area. These are 1) Potential Lode deposits associated with a postulated western extension of the John Bull gold line and 2) low grade high tonnage alluvial material that covers much of the licence area. The apparent association between gold and sulphides makes the exploration for sulphide concentrations a major target. Work done to date consisted of shallow auger drilling into the alluvials. The results aren't encouraging as yet but exploration is at an early stage. The future programe requires geophysical surveys to locate the sulphide concentrations and follow up drilling to test the geophysical targets for gold mineralization and also to further test the alluvials and underlying bedrock. |
