Abstract: | Applications for gold Mining Leases were made to cover the breccias at Ten Mile Creek (9 leases) and two areas of breccias south of Ten Mile Creek. These have been termed Ten Mile Creek South (8 leases) and Ten Mile Creek South-East (4 leases). These latter areas were gridded, mapped in detail and surveyed with a hand held scintillometer. A few additional rock chip samples were taken. It was planned to conduct magnetic induced polarization surveys over the Ten Mile Creek South and Ten Mile Creek South-East areas in the early part of the field season when soils would be in optimum, moist condition. Due to the very heavy preceding wet season regular access to the area was not possible until late June. This allowed insufficient time to complete preparatory gridding and mapping for the geophysical surveys before labour had to be diverted to the Cooinda drilling programme in EL 281. At the completion of this work soil conditions were too dry and the plans had to be abandoned for the year. An extension of the gold search in Area A was planned, time permitting. These plans also had to be abandoned due to delays in the Cooinda drilling programme. The breccias at Ten Mile Creek South are lithologically similar to the Ten Mile Creek breccia with erratic gold, silver and lead values. The structure of the area is more complex and there is a possibility of finding economic mineralization in the country rocks. Further work including geophysical surveys and probably drilling is required. |
