Abstract: | The geological work on EL 360 has been orientated towards the discovery of uranium mineralization in Mount Eclipse Sandstone both in areas of outcrop and sub-outcrop, following the discovery of uranium mineralization within EL 402. 2. The work completed on EL 402 gave the following results: (a) Geological and radiometric reconnaissance revealed areas of favorable rock lithology and minor mineralization, (b) Airborne radiometric surveys in 1971 and 1974 obtained no significant anomalies apart from those associated with the known mineralization, (c) Seismic shot hole sample logging obtained favorable lithologies but no mineralization was found, (d) Auger drilling produced three radiometric anomalies but none proved to be related to uranium mineralization, (e) Track Etch surveys at regional and close spaced levels produced anomalies but none were found to be related to uranium mineralization, (f) Drilling showed a weak, narrow uranium mineralization to be present. Following the discovery of radioactivity at Dingo's Rest South in 1971, a regional airborne radiometric survey was conducted over the Ngalia Basin aimed particularly at assessing the potential of the Mount Eclipse Sandstone. This survey utilized a Britten Norman Islander aircraft operated by Geophysical Resources Development equipped with a- four channel spectrometer. All outcrops of Mount Eclipse Sandstone in EL 402 were flown during this survey, both along strike and across strike, at a spacing of 3 to 6 kilometers. Terrain clearance was 80 to 100 metres and ground speed 140 knots. Subsequently, on December 15th, 1973, a Pioneer Aircraft of Aero Services Aust Pty Ltd., flew an orientation survey in the Ngalia Basin. A ferry/reconnaissance line was flown over Dingo Rest South and a small response was recorded. This was followed by an airborne survey which covered all outcrops of Mount Eclipse Sandstone within the Exploration License and 15 anomalies were located. Of these, 2 were associated with the known mineralization at Dingo's Rest South and the remainder is attributable to shale sandstone lithological contrast within the Mount Eclipse Sandstone. |
