Abstract: | Exploration Licence No. 228 held by Australian Ores and Minerals Limited was granted on 25th May, 1972. It represents the conversion in tenure on Authority to Prospect No. 2451 to an Exploration Licence. In accordance with Section 38B Sub-section 11 of the Mining Ordinance the area of the Exploration Licence was halved from 482 sq. kms C 186 sq. mls ) to 41 sq. kms (93 sq. mls) when it was subject to renewal on 21st April, 1974. This report is the Final Report on the relinquished area in pursuance of Section 380 Sub-section 1 of the Mining Ordinance. Access to the area is via a bitumen road from Tennant Creek to the Warrego Mine of Peko Mines Limited; thence 11.5 kms west from the mine along a formed dirt road to a graded track that runs in a southerly direction to the Rover 1 Prospect (Aeromagnetic anomalies which are to be subjected to further investigation are identified by the title Rover followed by a numeral). Rover 1 Prospect lies on the southern boundary of Exploration Licence No. 228. Lateral access within Exploration Licence No. 228 is via graded tracks to the east and west from Rover 1. The track to the east provides an alternative access route to the area via either a track from Kelly Well or a track from Cabbage Gum Bore. The confluence of the two tracks is located at Kelly West Trig which is situated approximately 20 kms from the eastern boundary of Exploration Licence No. 228. Prior to the area being held as an Authority to Prospect, an area which embraces Exploration Licence No. 228 was covered by an aeromagnetic survey carried out by the Bureau of Mineral Resources. An additional low level survey was conducted over the area on behalf of Australian Ores and Minerals Limited by Geophysical Resources Development Co. in 1970-1971. Two aeromagnetic anomalies were located on the ground and were covered by reconnaissance magnetics using the vehicle magnetometer-navigator. |
