| Abstract: | EL 7034 lies on the northern margin of the Rum Jungle and Waterhouse basement complexes. The southern margin of the licence is bound by a prominent E-W trending ridge of Acacia Gap Quartzite and minor outcrop of Wildman Siltstone and Koolpin Formation. In the north, sub-outcropping Mount Bonnie and Burrell Creek Formation sediments form low hills. The majority of the licence is covered by alluvial sands, clays and laterite. Previous exploration efforts by the BMR, Uranerz and CEGBEA were directed towards U mineralisation. Two U prospects were identified, Brodribb and Lugg's, but radiation has been attributed to thorium rather than uranium. Only minor base metal exploration was conducted over the licence and was unsuccessful. Work carried out during the first year of tenure by Aztec Mining Company Limited (1991/92) consisted of literature search, rock chip sampling, BLEG and -40# stream sediment sampling and laterite sampling. Laterite and stream sediment sampling highlighted several base metal and gold anomalies. Follow-up work in two of the gold anomalies failed to duplicate previous results. |
