Abstract: | Representative outcrops of likely host unit sequences in the Angalarri Siltstone Goobaieri Formation and Legune Formation were examined in proximity to major fault zones which transect the sequence. The Angalarri Siltstone is remarkable both for its lithological uniformity, and for the lack of any disturbance to its internal stratigraphy. No evidence could be found for syndepoitional faulting. We conclude that it does not constitute a good host environment. Definitive conclusions concerning the host potential of the Goodbaieri Siltstone could not be reached. The great lateral continuity of thin units in the Legune Formation stratigraphy, general uniformity of the sequence and predominantly sandy composition all indicate it as unfavourable host environment. The lack of general lithological encouragement in this area of high outcrop suggests further, more expensive, exploration effort is not justified |
