Abstract: | Reassessment of aeromagnetic data outlined 7 untested targets which could possibly reflect kimberlitic pipes. Each target was followed up by ground magnetics. As a result 6 of the 7 targets were assessed as worthy of follow up. These 6 targets were tested by a RC percussion drill programme, totalling 35 holes and 941m. Analysis of 31 drill spoil samples proved negative for kimberlitic indicator minerals-diamonds. 7 samples were analysed by geochemistry and 3 of those samples were examined petrographically. Petrographic analysis suggests material was of basaltic with possibly alkaline affinities, while the geochemistry suggests they are theoliitic and similar to the Antrim Plateau Volcanics. |
