Abstract: | Exploration during the first year of tenure of EL 4837 concentrated on the central part of the licence area. This area is along strike from the Ringwood - South Ringwood line of gold workings and is considered to have the most potential for gold mineralization within the EL. Interbedded greywackes and siltstones follow a general north - south strike with very steep dips to both east and west. Numerous quartz veins occur but outcrop samples show them to contain little gold. Gravity processing of samples of colluvium and alluvium (average 60kg) produced concentrates containing in excess of 100 fine colours of gold. The source of this free gold is yet to be identified. Work proposed for 1987 is to extend the reconnaissance mapping and sampling over the rest of the EL and follow up promising areas, including the area of free gold shed already identified, with outcrop and subsurface sampling. |
