Abstract: During 1986 CSR Limited carried out an exploration programme for gold within Exploration LIcence 4177 (EL 4177). The programme consisted of soil sampling, ground magnetics, rock chip sampling and trenching. The programme was designed to evaluate the four prospects generated by the 1985 exploration programme. Soil sampling at the Ban Ban prospect defined a broad zone of anomalous gold values. The zone is 600 metres long with a maximum width of 120 metres and is open to the west. Trenching within this zone intersected intensely altered dolerite. A 24 metre zone in trench one assayed 0.3 ppm Au including 2 metres at 1.4 ppm Au. The gold mineralization is present within small quartz veins which form a weak stockwork. The ground magnetic survey did not detect any significant zone of pyrrhotite mineralization. Soil and rock chip sampling failed to generate any anomalies at either the Olive, Watertank, or B11 prospects. Further work is recommended on the Ban Ban prospect. A programme of soil sampling, trenching and percussion drilling should be completed. No further work is recommended at either the Watertank, Olive or B11 prospects.
