Abstract: | EL 7852, Diljin, was applied for to explore for sediment hosted Pb/Zn mineralisation similar to other deposits of the Carpentarian Zinc Belt. Such deposits include HYC, Century and Mt Isa/Hilton. This report details exploration from 28 September 1992 to 28 September 1995 and includes the following: Geochemical Sampling; Aeromagnetics and Radiometries; Two stratigraphic diamond drillholes; Two percussion drillholes. Several phases of regional and detailed stream and rock chip sampling delineated a series of base metal anomalies. Stratigraphic diamond drilling in 1994 intersected black shale lithologies of the McCaw Formation with high background base metal geochemistry which is interpreted to be the source of the 'anomalism'. Two percussion holes completed in 1995 were designed to test the black shales in the vicinity of AMAG delineated structural intersections. The two holes were abandoned at 71 m and 78m due to excessive water flows. The prospective black shales units are interpreted to occur at > 100-150m below surface which is considered to be becoming excessively deep. No further work was recommended and the tenement was allowed to expire. |
