Abstract: | This report briefly describes work carried out by Dominion on MCNs during 1991, and provides a reson for retaining the area. A radiometric anomaly was identified in MCN 3278 which was considered prospective for unconformity style U/base matel mineralisation. Rock chip sampling returned peak response of 8ppm U, 24ppm Cu, 18ppm Pb, and 54ppm Zn. Geological mapping confirmed that flat lying ferruginous sediments of the Jindare Formation unconformably overly the South Aligator Group in certain areas and that the radiometric anomalies are associated with these unconformities. Follow up drilling also confirmed that the low level radiometric and geochemical anomalies in the area area a result of elemental scavenging by the ferruginous cup rock. As this is the case no more exploration was conducted. With these tenements being so close to Cosmo Howley they became part of the area used for mine infrastruture. It is still used for this reason. |
