Abstract: | In the first year of tenure of Kilgour EL 4237 reconnaissance density drainage gravel sampling was completed over the area and samples processed for detection of kimberlitic indicator minerals and microdiamonds. Single microdiamonds were recovered from two samples no other kimberlitic indicator minerals were observed. Follow-up sampling resulted in detection of a single chromite in a drainage sample and five microdiamonds in loam samples from round recovered photocircular features. Two of the microdiamonds were found in loam samples from a striking photocircular topographic feature in the Spear Creek drainage catchment. Prospect scale geological mapping and round magnetic surveys followed by scout drilling, were carried out over the Spear Creek feature and one other of the photofeatures, designated Kilgour Gorge Prospect. The Kilgour Gorge Prospect photofeature was shown by drilling to be underlain by a Precambrian sedimentary section, with no evidence of kimberlitic diatreme intrusion. The Spear Creek Prospect topographic and magnetic anomalies were not elucidated by the single successfully completed drill hole. Seven micro- diamonds recovered from crushed drill core samples were subsequently identified as synthetics from the drill bit. A low level, high sensitivity aeromanetic-radiometric survey was flown over the EL area in tenure year one. Stacked magnetic profiles were studied in detail but no discrete features were identified for ground recovery as possible kimberlitic diatreme responses. |
