Abstract: The primary purpose of the 1984 program was to locate dredgable sand deposits in the Darwin area. It is felt that river gravels on the present sea bottom, associated with a postulated major Pleistocene stream with headwaters in Darwin Harbour may have contained alluvial concentrations of cassiterite and tantalite. Samples analysed for tin and tantalum did not yield encouraging results. Some favourable sand deposits were located.
