Abstract: | The Lucy Creek Exploration Licence is located mainly on Lucy Creek Station in the eastern part of the Northern Territory. The Licence covers a thin strip of ground in the north-eastern quadrant of the Huckitta 1:250 000 sheet. Exploration Licence No. 1248 mainly covers a flat lying sequence of carbonate rocks of the Upper Cambrian Arrinthrunga Formation. The carbonate units below the Eurowie Sandstone Member outcrop in the area. Near the southern boundary of the Licence minor carbonates of the Middle Cambrian Arthur Creek beds outcrop. The area was covered by geological traverses with associated rock chip sampling of the carbonate sequences. Minor sphalerite mineralization in drill core from Georgina 7 stratigraphic hole was examined. Geological and prospecting traverses failed to find any surface lead or zinc mineralization. No anomalous results were obtained for rock chips collected on a number of traverses across the area. The minor disseminated sphalerite in Georgina 7 drill core is probably of a diagenetic origin. The lack of any signs of surface mineralization, geochemical anomalies and the overall geology of the area together with the lack of encouraging results from exploration of other licences in the general region indicate that the chances of finding viable lead and/or zinc mineralization in the area are very low. The Arthur Creek Beds and Arrinthrunga Formation were deposited under intertidal to supratidal with periods of subtidal conditions on a broad shelf of a shallow epicontinental sea. EL to be relinquished. |
