Abstract: This report covers exploration, principally for base metals, carried out on EL 71, Finniss River for the year ended 6th of September 1974. A total of four diamond holes on combined magnetic /IP amonalies were completed. The auger rig was used to collect 60 soil samples over magnetic anomalies 3 and 4. Forty additional auger holes were drilled for the purpose of fetrmining the bedrock type. Twelve auger holes were drilled in swamps for testing the possible accumulation of uranium in Cainozoic sediments. A combined aerial spectrometer/magnetometer survey was flown over the tenement. A total of 10 uranium channel anomalies were tested by ground spectrometer traversing, soil sampling, and bedrock drilling. Pyritic quartz-mica-magnetite-shists were found to be the cause of the IP/magnetic anomalies tested with diamond drilling. Only minor amounts of base metals were encountered. Best analysis was 0.53% Zn and 0.23% Pb over 4m in D4. Soil sampling did not reveal any significant anomalies. Analysis results for the mud samples were disappointingly low, the highest uranium content being 9ppm. The follow-up of the 10uranium channel anomalies did not reveal anything of economic interest.
