Abstract: | This is a final summary report prepared by consulting engineers to Northern Cement who were presumably searching for high-purity limestone, although the target specifications are not given. During the first pass exploration in 1973, 68 surface samples were collected and tested with reaction to 10% HCl. Grid sampling located 5 out of 82 samples whose reaction time with 10% HCl warranted chemical assays. The second phase of exploration was a drilling program. This was began but only partly completed due to delays and machinery breakdown. Only three holes to less than 30 feet were completed. Of 61 grid samples collected only 11 were deemed suitable for further assay. In the final phase of work, auger drilling was conducted over the south east corner of the licence. 12 holes, each 7 feet, were put down without locating anything of interest. Surface sampling in the same area resulted in 32 of 85 samples worthy of further work, but the assays were not conducted when the licence was not renewed. |
