Abstract: | EL 6946 has been explored for diamonds and metals by means of remote sensing techniques and sampling. Remote sensing studies were in the form of air-photo interpretation, TM studies using satelite imagery, an airborne geophysical survey and a Strain Mapping Analysis. Reconnaissance heavy mineral and geochemical samples were also collected, mainly from drainages but also from soils in areas of remote sensing anomalies. While diamond exploration has proved to be negative in the relinquished portion, geochemical sampling has highlighted anomalous base metal values (max 570ppm Cu, 60ppm Pb and 135ppm Zn), which are associated with outcropping Wollogorang Formation. Detailed follow-up soil sampling has only served to confirm the restricted extent of this anomaly. No other encouragement was obtained from within the relinquished area. |
