Abstract: The Timber Creek Project is located approximately 370 kilometers SSW of Darwin on the Auvergne (4966) 1:100,000 map sheet. The five known Timber Creek Kimberlites (TC01 to TC05) are sited approximately 10 kilometers south of the township of Timber Creek. These kimberlites were discovered by De Beers and are currently within EL 10358. This report details exploration within Exploration Licence 9717 and Exploration Licence 9718. These Licences are being explored together with Exploration Licence 10358 as the Timber Creek Project, by Tawana Resources NL. An examination has been made of all available aerial photographs, combined with satellite images. The aim was to delineate if significant alluvial channels exited downstream from the known diamond bearing kimberlites. Only weak possible linear trends were observed. The available aerial magnetic data was also examined to compare with the aerial photographs and satellite images. Again no obvious anomalous areas were visible. To confirm a number of ground magnetic traverse were done across the valley north of Timber Creek 01 Kimberlite. No anoamlous magnetic zones were observed which would indicate the presence of gravel channels. Finally, in September 2004 a low level charter flight with geologists W. Marx (Tawana Resources NL), S. Cooper (Orogenic Exploration Pty Ltd), and Dr E. Belousova (Macquarie University) on board, flew over the licence areas. No visual evidence could be seen of any drainage areas that could contain suitable diamond bearing gravels. It was concluded that the only thin veneer of gravels is present over most of the valley floors and little possibility of an economic diamond alluvial deposit would exist. Given the disappointing results of the historical data examination, combined with the assessment of the alluvial potential, consideration is being given to the surrender of these two licences pending board approval.
