U-Pb SHRIMP results from the Birrindudu Basin region, Northern Territory, 2025-2026

Abstract

This Record presents new Sensitive High Resolution Ion Micro Probe (SHRIMP) U-Pb zircon and monazite geochronology for fourteen drillhole and outcrop samples from the Palaeo-Mesoproterozoic Birrindudu Basin and its underlying metamorphosed basement in the northwestern Northern Territory, generated as part of Geoscience Australia's Birrindudu Deep Dive (BDD) project under the Resourcing Australia's Prosperity initiative. The results substantially improve chronostratigraphic controls on poorly constrained basal successions of the Birrindudu Basin, provide new insights into the age, provenance, and evolution of the basin and metamorphosed basement, and strengthen correlations to adjacent provinces that host major mineral and energy resources.
