Newmarket Gold Inc. conducted a review of all assets and found that the Star of the North group of tenements, although being prospective, did not comply with the core asset criteria and strategic focus of the company. The Star of the North project is seen as a lower ranked target with limited future plans. The project was offered for sale and Monax Mining Ltd entered into a purchase agreement for the group of four tenements, along with other tenements offered by Newmarket Gold Inc. However, during 2016 the purchase agreement was withdrawn by Monax Mining Ltd. The project area remains on offer for sale by Newmarket Gold Inc. Monax undertook several reconnaissance surface sampling trips to the leases during the year. A total of 35 rock chip samples were collected and are displayed in Figure 8-1. The best assay result was 150 g/t gold and 15 of the 35 samples reported > 1g/t gold. Based on the positive rock chip results, Monax drilled a reverse circulation hole (MRRC1609) on MLN 875, totalling 30m. The hole was aimed at testing the main quartz vein at a shallow depth and test for quartz, but the hole failed to intersect quartz. No samples were submitted for laboratory assay. Figure 8-2 shows the location of the hole.-
