XRD (X-Ray Diffraction) data release of greater McArthur Basin samples

Abstract

This data release contains X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) data of 34 samples selected from three drill cores from the greater McArthur Basin in the NTGS's Darwin core repository. These samples covered five formations: the Campbell Springs Dolostone (n = 2), Fraynes Formation (n = 9), Seale Sandstone (n = 2) Timber Creek Formation (n = 5), Skull Creek Formation (n = 1), Battle Creek Formation (n = 12) and Wondoan Hill Formation (n = 5) of the Birrindudu Basin (Table 1) in addition to the Barney Creek Formation (n = 13), Teena Dolostone (n = 6) and Lynott Formation (n = 10) of the McArthur Basin (Table 1). This data was generated at the Inorganic Geochemistry Laboratory at Geoscience Australia as part of the EFTF program.

This publically available dataset is provided in preparation for future work to generate statistics quantifying the spatial distribution and composition of sedimentary rocks, providing information to de-risk resource decision making and investment of northern Australian basins.
