Abstract: | EL 28026 'Victoria Highway' covers the nexus of the Daly and Dunmurra Basins and the Kalkarinji Province. The rocks of the Kalkarinji Province are the target of the exploration here. An exploration model is being used where the sedimentary units within a flood basalt package are mineralised with Cu-Pb-Zn-Ag during subsequent magmatism. The model is similar to known base metal deposits in North America, Russia and Greenland. Syn-sedimentary faults are also considered prospective. Mapping by the Northern Territory Geological Survey has identified some sedimentary units in the Kalkarinji flood basalts. These units have now been visited and samples collected. The intra-volcanic sediments are strongly mineralized with iron, but only weak base metal anomalism has thus far been detected. Further work is warranted. |
