The license was applied for to explore for rare earth mineralization potentially associated with an ovoid magnetic anomaly which was thought could be due to an alkalic intrusive complex. Carbonatite, perhaps part of such an intrusive complex, has been described at Mud Tank and has been interpreted to occur at the Bleechmore Dykes vermiculite occurrence just south of EL 28610. Several traverses were made through the southern part of the EL where the northern part of the ovoid magnetic anomaly is located. Outcrop consisted mainly of felsic and mafic granulite, generally with foliation striking ESE and dipping moderately northward. The mafic granulite is sometimes quite strongly foliated and sometimes quite massive - with the appearance of dolerite. It is usually magnetic. Mapping here, and to the south, as shown that the source of the magnetic anomaly is almost certainly the mafic granulite. There are also some outcrops of porphyritic meta-granite. No evidence of alkalic intrusives or of carbonatite (possible hosts of rare earth mineralization) was found. Spot radiometric anomalies in the area are mainly associated with laterite or ferruginous sandstone and conglomerate. They are not significant. The license should be relinquished.
