Abstract: The Hylogger IR spectroscopic analyses of drillcore being conducted by various Geological Surveys in Australia routinely return analyses indicating various minerals that often cannot be readily confirmed in the hand specimens, and require XRD (X-ray diffraction) or other methods for confirmation.
The objective of this study is mostly to determine the presence or absence of some carbonates, clay minerals, tourmaline and other phases in ten samples, from various sites in the NT.
The results of these analyses indicate that the XRD mostly confirms the Hylogging results, although the carbonates and sulphates do not always give the correct identification. The aspectral samples give XRD results that should have been determined by the Hylogger, at least in part. Two different tourmalines are present (low and high iron).
The report contains samples from the following drill holes: BR05DD01, MURD001, MURD013, LV09001, YG23RD
