The Walker Gossan Project in eastern Arnhem Land has been held under application by Rio Tinto Exploration Pty Ltd since 1972 (EL 385). Elevated lead in rock chips (2.7% Pb and 1.4% Pb) from outcrop of silicified, ferruginous 'gossan' were reported. The target area from which those samples were sourced was granted as EL 24305 in late 2015. DPG Resources Australia Inc (DPG), a wholly owned subsidiary of GPM Metals Inc (GPM), a company listed on the Toronto Venture Exchange, conducted a soil and rock chip sampling programme in late 2015 which delineated an extensive 3,000m long Pb +Zn/Ag/Cu anomaly co-incident with outcropping Fe-Si breccia. This anomaly is interpreted to be truncated by a NE trending structure to the north and a north trending structure to the south. The 'gossan' of silicified, stromatolitic and ferruginous dolostone is correlated with the Balbirini Dolostone although uncertainty exists regarding the correlation and the temporal relationship to the Group bounding unconformity at the bottom of the Nathan Group. Outcrop is poor and a drilling program was proposed to provide detailed geological and assay data. The target is an economic sediment hosted Pb-Zn-Ag deposit. There are world-class base metal mines in the Proterozoic basins of Northern Australia, including the Batten Fault Zone which hosts the HYC deposit and shares geological features with the Walker Fault Zone. The Walker Gossan is situated in the Walker Fault Zone, considered by the NTGS to be a direct analogue of the Batten Fault Zone, host to the HYC deposit located some 300km south at McArthur River. Between August and November 2016, DPG undertook 7 diamond drill holes for 953.5m, as part of a larger drill program, at the Walker Gossan project area. All drill core was orientated, logged and photographed. Sampling was based on geological logging and handheld XRF analysis. Sample analysis was completed by ALS-Chemex and analysed using method used by ALS was ME-ICP61, ICP-AES for 33 elements. The results show a shallow west dipping, 8 ? 9 degrees sequence of sediments with the Balbirini Dolostone (terrigenous ? variably dolomitised - siltstone/sandstone, a stromatolitic carbonate package, a carbonaceous siltstone/sandstone and a basal sandstone) overlying the Jalma Fm. The Jalma Fm. ( upper - silts, sandstones, oolitic beds grading into a basal fine sandstone and silts which is in part carbonaceous, pyritic, and conglomeraticand a lower medium to coarse sand unit ? possibly with some remnant kerogen basal unit) overlay the Coast Range Sandstone (a silicified sandstone). An IP survey conducted in 2015 showed a strong chargeable anomaly in the Jalm Fm trending NNE and dipping steeply. The 'gossan' showed a shallow flat lying anomaly. Drilling considered the possibility of NS trending basin margin normal faults increasing the depth to basement to the west and planned drilling provided meterage for this. The chargeable anomaly in the Jalma Fm was tested in hole 5 with a minor increase in fracturing and pyrite ? quartz fracture fill noted. Dr mark Hinman is currently reviewing the results and samples have been selected for petrology incluing the widespread ?ferroan carbonate.en_US
