EL 30607 Victoria River Bauxite Project Annual and final surrender report 12 May 2015 to 27 June 2016

Abstract

Following grant of the licence, a detailed published literature study was undertaken to assess potential for the occurrence of bauxite mineralisation within Cainozoic laterite, preserved as mesas and plateaus within the tenement area and at the lateritised unconformity between Proterozoic Bulitta Group sediments and overlying Jasper Gorge sediments. EL 30607 was applied for as part of a larger group of tenements covering both Cainozoic and Jasper Gorge unconformity laterite targets. Remote sensing data was acquired to compliment a preliminary regional field check. The review of archival reports found that historical sampling reported very low levels of alumina in Cainozoic laterites developed over principally Mullaman sediments, significantly downgrading the prospectivity of the tenement for the occurrence of economic bauxite mineralisation. Interpretation of mapping suggest that the unconformity between Bulitta Group and Jasper Gorge sediments and the interpreted lateritised profile marking that unconformity does not outcrop / occur within the tenement. Due to the remote location of the tenement, distance to established infrastructure and transport networks and uncertainty over the grant of outstanding tenement applications covering Aboriginal Freehold lands, the exploration potential did not meet company target parameters for a nominally economic bauxite deposit and a decision to withdraw eventuated.
