dc.description.abstractThe initial exploration although not exhaustive has been sufficient to establish that the gold mineralisation occurs in narrow quartz zones. There is little evidence for the existence of quartz stockworks having substantial tonnage potential at either South Ringwood or Hidden Valley. At South Ringwood there is scope for proving up a small-scale operation say in the order of 100,000 to 150,000 tonnes if Pacific Goldmines N.L. is interested in proceeding with the option. Work included the following; Geological Mapping - To facilitate geological mapping a base line grid covering the workings at South Ringwood was surveyed and pegged on a bearing of 3500 magnetic. The distribution of hard rock workings and eluvial diggings was mapped and plotted on the geological plan at 1:1000 scale. A similar grid was installed to cover the gold workings at Hidden Valley. A geological plan at 1:1000 scale is included. Rock Geochemistry - Reconnaissance grab samples of quartz and ferruginous siltstone were collected on a number of line traverses across the mineralised trend at South Ringwood and Hidden Valley to establish the distribution and tenor of mineralisation. Sampling consisted of chip sampling across quartz veins and bedrock, selection of float material proximal to old workings and grab sampling of material from 'dry-blowing' residues. Samples were submitted to Australian Assay Laboratories (Pine Creek) Pty. Ltd, (AAL) arid assayed for gold by fire assay (method FA5O). The location of sample sites are shown on the geological plans and results included. Hardrock Trenching - A hydraulic excavator was used to dig 18 costeans across the mineralised trend at South Ringwood. Costean locations were selected to aid geological mapping, test the continuity of mineralisation and explore areas with extensive quartz lag or prominent eluvial workings. Within the costeans horizontal channel samples were collected along the walls using a geological hammer and collecting pan. Sample intervals were generally 3 metres except in zones of quartz veining where one metre intervals were collected. Sample weights averaged 4kg. All samples were submitted to AAL and assayed for gold by fire assay (method FA5O). Costeans were mapped and the structural relationship of quartz veins noted.en_US
