Title: 1971 Annual report for AP 2046 Nabarlek Area
Title Holder / Company: Queensland Mines
Report id: CR1971-0062
Tenure: AP2046
Year: 1971
Abstract: In order to give management an assessment on the possibilities of finding economic deposits of uranium ores, or of any other minerals within AP 2046 before December 1971, a systematic exploration campaign was initiated in January 1970. After a routine study of the pertinent literature and photogeologic mapping the whole area was covered by an airborne radiometric and magnetic survey. Then followed geologic reconnaissance surveys, follow-up on the ground of the radiometric anomalies discovered by the airborne survey, and, semi-detailed and detailed geological mapping of promising areas especially within the metamorphic inliers. As soon as' an uranium prospect had been located by one of the several exploration methods used, pits and trenches were dug to collect samples for mineralogic analysis and assays. If the results obtained from these first samples justified it, the aerial extension of the mineral deposit and its continuation at depth was tested by diamond core drilling or percussion drilling. To determine if a deposit would be of economic importance or not, and to define the boundaries of the mineralized zone, the most promising prospects were tested by close spaced drilling. Most of the information obtained as a result of this exploration work is incorporated in the 67 Plate Enclosures which accompany this report. In the following paragraphs some of these results are discussed in more detail.
