Fourth annual report and final report for EL 26898 Katherine-Daly Basin, for the period 14 May 2009 to 12 April 2013

Abstract

EL26898-Katherine located within the Daly Basin, west of Katherine was acquired for its potential to host rock phosphate. During the reporting period the following work was carried out: Acquisition of digital data sets and evaluation of historical company reports, phosphate market research; Review of regional radiometric, magnetic, landsat and mineral data; Geological review of EL 26898; Field reconnaissance conducted; 29 in field Niton XRF readings taken from rock outcrops; 12 rock samples submitted to laboratory for multi-element analysis; and Lithological description of 11 rock samples. Lithologies of rock samples collected in the field were described generally as limestone, with samples KN1 to KN5 interpreted as Tindall Limestone and samples and samples KN6 to KN10 and KN13 interpreted as Jinduckin Formation. Rock chips assayed for tenement EL 26898 (N) by Labwest, were on the whole unremarkable with only a few elements raised above background levels. Prime target mineralisation for this tenement was phosphate and only one sample KN1b showing as marginally anomalous returning a 355ppm value for Phosphorus. This same sample was also elevated in Fe (5.33%) as well as marginally anomalous for Pb (146ppm), V(137ppm), W(982ppm) and Zn(105ppm). Stratigraphically this sample represents a fossil-rich nodule layer widely encountered throughout the field area that could be targeted for further investigation. Overall project assessment of the phosphate potential of the tenement was carried out during the current year. The potential was downgraded and no further exploration activities were carried out. The tenement was surrendered on 12/4/2013.
