The Elbon AP 2386 covers an area of approx 35 sq miles centered on the Nobles Nob Mine, ten miles south-east of Tennant Creek. The area was granted to Nobelex NL in September 1969, for a 12 month period and renewed for a further 12 months in September 1970. Red Terror Prospect - Since this prospect has been drilled several times without any of the holes giving an answer to the source of the magnetic anomaly, it was decided that a concerted effort should be made to determine the source of the magnetic disturbance. An area of 1 1/2 sq miles around the magnetic anomaly was photomapped at a scale of 1'/1000' using the recent low level aerophotography. This work outlined the facies of sediments which are more arenaceous and contain disseminated magnetite in the ore of the anomaly. Magnetic evaluation continued and 14 samples from DDH 363 were collected and sent to our consultlant geophysicist for remanent magnetism determinations. Thie work together with a coomplete geological re-appraisal led to a drill site being selected for future drilling. 1200 line ft of grid was renovated by ADL personnel and a drill site prepared. A rotary percussion drill hole was completed to 350ft and will be used as a precollar for the diamond drill hole. Y Anomaly - This anomaly was located on the ground from the low-level aeromagnetics and gridded at 200' by 100' by the ADL personnel and contract surveyors. Three lines of auger drill holes were proposed to obtain bed-rock and geochemical information. This programme was terminated short of the planned number of holes after only 31 were drilled for a total footage of 750 ft. The poor success was due to the excessive depth of overburden which had to be penetrated to reach bedrock, the presence of hard calcaveous layers and a poor return of chips. Chips from the southern part of the grid indicated the presence of some porphyry in the area. The water bores and a well were located within the area which enabled the grid to be tied into the old Cabbage Gum basin work, carried out by the Government Water Resources Branch. Z1 - Z2 Prospect - The area of the Z2 anomaly was gridded at 400' by 100' by ADL personnel. This work totalled 88600 line ft. The ground magnetometry was completed and contoured by our contract geophysicist. Work on the prospect will be held until a re-evaluation of Z1 is completed.en_US
