Monthly reports for AP 2292 are as follows; December 1969 - The slotted photo assembly over this area has been completed and base plans for the area drawn up. Photo interpretation of the geology will be continued during January. 01/02/1970 to 10/03/1970 - Photo interpretation continued and is now about 2 3rds complete. As suspected there is very little outcrop in the area except flat lying Cambrian sediments. However, taking into account the structure to the west of the AP Warramunga Group rocks should underlie this Cambrian cover. 01/07/1970 to 28/07/1970 - Three aeromagnetic anomalies have been located on the ground and trial magnetometer traverses run over them. Two do not appear to be worthy of follow up work but the third, after plotting of results, could be interesting. Our consultant geophysicist advises that a grid plan is being drawn up for this anomaly and will reach us shortly. Initial work planned on this anomaly is a grid survey, magnetometer survey over this grid and trial auger holes for bedrock information at specific points on the grid. The previously completed photointerpreted geology of the AP has been partly checked in the field and found to be substantially correct. More detailed field mapping in the north western part of the AP is planned. 29/07/1970 to 25/08/11970 - A grid consisting of 34000m of line was pegged over a magnetic anomaly designated Explorer 84 and this grid read with the magnetometer. A number of auger holes were drilled to a maximum depth of 60 feet on the grid but none penetrated the Cambrian cover. 13/01/1971 to 09/02/1971 - After considerable difficulty in getting the drill rig to the Explorer 84 Hole 1site, a vertical hammer hole was drilled to 306 feet where the rods became jammed in the hole. Part of the rod string was recovered but the hole was abandoned at this stage. The hole passed through Cambrian sediments into Warramunga sediments, and finally into magnetic hematite shale. Geochemical tests are being carried out on the cuttings. 10/02/1971 to 09/03/1971 - geochemical results from Explorer 84, Hole 1 were received and were negative. The drilling results were discussed with our Senior Geophysicist and further reconnaissance magnetics have been planned in the vicinity of Explorer 84. 22/09/1971 to 19/10/1971 - A decision has been made to fly a trial area of approximately 70 sq miles for magnetics and radiometrics. Tenders are now being called. The results of this survey should indicate whether or not further exploration is warranted in the area. 09/02/1972 to 07/03/1972 - Flying of the north western portion for magnetics and radiometrics has been completed. Results are not yet to hand.en_US
