dc.description.abstract | Tenement EL 22872 was acquired as part of a larger project, searching for Broken Hill Style lead-zinc-silver mineralisation within a major transcurrent fault corridor, extending WNW-ESE through the region. However, following the geochronological study by David Maidment encompassing the same general area, this target type was no longer considered viable, as no evidence was found for rocks in the target age range of 1.7 to 1.6 Ga. The project continued as a diamond project when interpretation from the 2001 NTGS Eromanga aeromagnetic survey defined a cluster of dipolar anomalies to the east of EL 22872. These anomalies strongly resembled the dipolar anomalies commonly associated with potentially diamondiferous kimberlite or lamproite pipes and became the main focus for exploration. No anomalies were specifically located within the area covered by EL 22872 and no work was completed during the life of the tenement. It has subsequently been recommended for relinquishment. Rio Tinto Exploration withdrew from the joint venture in 2007, having drilled some of the dipole anomalies on adjacent tenements. The magnetic anomalies were interpreted to be from maghemite and the area was no longer considered prospective for kimberlitic or lamproitic rocks. No further work was warranted on this tenement. | en_US |
