Title: | Year 6 annual and final report on exploration activities for EL 5953 'Mount Lean' |
Title Holder / Company: | Gravity Diamonds Diamond Mines Australia Rio Tinto Exploration |
Report id: | CR2006-0460 |
Tenure: | EL5953 |
Year: | 2006 |
Abstract: | EL 5953 lies within an area of anomalous kimberlitic indicator sampling results. A critical part of the tenement has been flown with the FALCON(r) system airborne gravity gradiometer system and eight initial target areas have been recognised. Field testing of these targets was completed in the 2005 field season, with five of the targets being immediately downgraded. Three of the FALCON(r) anomalies from the EL5953 survey were sampled and a number of gravel samples were also collected to confirm previous positive results or test catchments believed not to have been adequately sampled. A total of 12 heavy mineral samples were collected. Additionally, a -200 micron soil sample was collected at each indicator mineral sample site as a test for base metal anomalism. Results from indicator mineral sampling programs implemented during 2005 returned generally negative results. No elemental responses were noted from the geochemistry samples to indicate that EL5953 is prospective for base metals. No further work programmes were recommended and a decision was made to relinquish the tenement. |
