Abstract: | This Final Report describes all work carried out by BHP Billiton Minerals Pty Ltd (BHPB) on Exploration Licence 23146, Litchfield Project, Northern Territory. Exploration work by BHPB was targeting magmatic Cu-Ni deposits (eg Voiseys Bay, Jinchuan) associated with post-tectonic, mafic-ultramafic intrusions in the Litchfield Province. The Litchfield Province is interpreted to be an extension of the Halls Creek Mobile Belt. Numerous small Cu-Ni prospects occur scattered along the Halls Creek Mobile Belt, with the best example being Sally Malay (Resource 3.74 Mt @ 2.2% Ni equivalent. Source: Open Briefing to ASX by Sally Malay Mining, January 2004). No on-ground exploration work has been carried out on EL 23146. An internal review of the project downgraded the Ni-Cu sulphide targets. Initial magnetic targets selected from desk-top studies were found (discovered during technical due diligence) to relate to pyrrhotite-bearing metasediments and not mafic-ultramafic bodies. Consequently, EL 23146 was surrendered, effective 7 March 2005. |
