dc.description.abstract | Interpretation of acquired aeromagnetic data outlined six anomalies possibly associated with kimberlitic diatremes. These anomalies were followed up by helicopter borne magnetics with one anomaly (HR24-2) being further followed up by ground magnetics. The ground magnetics outlined an inhomogeneous, broad, flat lying body with a depth to source of approximately 20m. This anomaly was tested by a single RC percussion hole totalling 36m. The source of the anomaly appeared to be gravels some 10m thick. Reconnaissance gravel and loam sampling was undertaken at a density of 1:20km2. 8 gravel samples returned chromites of non-kimberlitic origin. The base metal potential of the tenements was also examined via a literature review, stream sediment and rock chip sampling. Stream sediment sampling identified several low order Zn-Cu-Mn-Fe anomalies associated with catchments draining the Arumbera Sandstone, Chandler Limestone and Todd River Dolomite. Elevated Zn and Cu is believed associated with scavenging by Mn-Fe. Anomalous results from rock chip samples are also believed due to by Mn and Fe scavenging. | en_US |
