Surface and drill testing was carried out during life of tenure in an area where potential existed for Groote Eylandt Mn in Cretaceous sediments onlapping Proterozoic rocks. The Proterozoic outcrop was interpreted as providing an embayed paleocoastline during the Cretaceous, giving protection for Mn distribution. Adequate testing revealed Albian age Cretaceous clay sands overlying a smooth, gently sloping pre-Cretaceous surface. No Groote Eylandt style Mn mineralisation was found. Small Mn accumulations in Karns Dolomite were considered to have no potential.en_US
