Annual report for EL 23610, year ending 3rd July 2004

Abstract

Exploration Licence 23610 was granted to Caldera Resources Pty Ltd. on 4th July 2003 for a period of six years. The Licence is located on the Victoria River Downs 5165 1:100 000 Sheet which is part of the Victoria River Downs 1: 250 000 Sheet in the Victiria Basin. The tenement covers an area of 56 square kilometres. Northern Territory Government 400 metre line-spaced aeromagnetic data (1998 survey) of a region incorporating EL 23610 reveals several potential intrusive pipe-like bodies. EL 23610 is strategically located approximately 60 kilometres southeast of the diamondiferous Timber Creek (TC) kimberlites discovered by De Beers during 1991. Exploration activity in the tenement included a 100 metre line-spaced aeromagnetic survey, and a helicopter supported follow-up surface sampling programme. Soil sand samples each weighing approximately 5 kilogram were collected from twenty-two anomalies and submitted to Diatech Laboratory in Perth for heavy mineral processing. The resulting heavy mineral concentrates were examined for traditional kimberlite indicator minerals and other other diagnostic heavy minerals.Various mineral grains were recovered and a quantitative analysis of these grains was completed using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) at CSIRO in Perth. The SEM results did not indicate the presence of any significant minerals with respect to the possible presence of kimberlite in the tenement. Additional sampling is planned in EL 23610 in an attempt to understand the source of magnetic anomalies.
