Substitute Exploration Licence 9214, Great Western, is located approximately 15km east of Warrego in a highly prospective area by virtue of its geology, its regional setting, and its proximity to Orlando, White Devil and Warrego. Targets were Tennant Creek style ironstone-related gold-copper deposits. This report summarises the exploration completed on Substitute Exploration Licence 9214 during its eight years of tenure, from 22nd December 1995 to 21st December 2003. SEL 9214 was regarded as highly prospective for typical Tennant Creek type Au mineralisation, by virtue of its geology, regional setting and proximity to Orlando, White Devil and Warrego. SEL 9214 has been subject to two joint venture agreements during its term, and as a consequence has been sequentially managed by MIM Exploration (subsidiary of Carpentaria Gold Pty Ltd), Giants Reef, Normandy and finally Giants Reef. Work conducted over SEL 9214 during the eight years of tenure has included desktop assessment, target appraisal, a geochemical orientation survey, BLEG sampling, rock chip sampling, geological mapping, vacuum and diamond drilling, geophysical modelling, reconnaissance and a helimagnetic survey. Initial targeting in SEL 9214 was for shear hosted non-magnetic ironstone. Both BLEG sampling and vacuum drilling in the Warrego East area failed to produce any significant intersections. Targeting was then based on traditional Tennant Creek ironstone-related gold-copper deposits. The targets identified from the helimagnetic survey are Explorer 151, Explorer 113, Explorer 112 and Explorer 14/Franc. Explorers 151 and 113 were diamond drill tested with one hole each. The completed holes (BEDD-012 and BEDD-014) intersected crystalline magnetite-hematite in bedding parallel bands with weak chlorite alteration in the target zones. The most significant intersection was 1m @ 0.05g/t Au in both holes. Remaining targets identified within SEL 9214 are Explorer 14/Franc, GW1/GW3 and Budgie prospects. No further on ground work was conducted on these prospects, other than reconnaissance trips. During the last year of tenure no on ground work was undertaken within the area.en_US
