L 85 was applied for to cover the area containing the old Gigantic mine which had a small, but high grade, gold production from an ironstone orebody typical of many mines in the Tennant Creek goldfield. The Licence is one of a contiguous group of tenements, referred to as the Eastern Project Area, being explored by Giants Reef. The others are ELs 7636, 7985, 9645, 9685 and the Blue Moon group of ML C575, MCC 377 and HLDC36. ERL 85 is subject to an Indigenous Land Use Agreement (ILUA), signed in September 2000 with the Native Title holders of the Tennant Creek region and the Central Land Council. A large portion of ERL 85 is now under application for Mineral Lease 22284, which covers the Billy Boy goldcopper prospect and an extensive surrounding area. This report covers the work done on ERL 85 during its thirteenth year of tenure from 16th December 2000 to 15th December 2001. Targets are gold and copper orebodies associated with ironstone masses. During Year 13 of the Licence, the preparation of the Notice of Intent to mine at Billy Boy was completed but its submission was postponed in case of possible changes. A database of the numerous past and recent drillholes at the Gigantic, Giant Moon and Rising Moon prospects was produced which will enable a thorough assessment of this group of prospects and will be carried out next year. Downhole magnetic logging of RC drillhole GIR001 at the Giant Moon prospect had to be abandoned because the hole was blocked at 45m. Further drilling of the 300 metre long mineralised zone at Billy Boy was deferred for various reasons. However, finding further resources at Billy Boy still remains an important objective for Giants Reef, and the drilling will be continued during 2002. Possibly some or all of the planned work will be carried out under ML 22284, depending on when the ML is granted.en_US
