EL 9934 Piebald Second Annual Report 28 January 1999 to 27 January 2000

Abstract

Exploration Licence 9934, Piebald, is one of a contiguous group of tenements which are part of the Peko-Juno Group centred 6 kilometres southeast of Tennant Creek. The Licence was granted on 28 January 1998 for a period of 6 years to Wiluna Gold Pty Ltd and Giants Reef Mining N.L. This Licence is one of a number of tenements in the Tennant Creek goldfield being explored under a Joint Venture between Wiluna Gold Pty Ltd, now a wholly owned subsidiary of Great Central Mines Limited, and Giants Reef Mining N.L. Giants Reef hold 60% of the equity and is the operator. This report covers the work carried out during the second year of tenure. Targets are gold and copper orebodies. The Licence Area is thought to be underlain by sedimentary sequences of the Palaeoproterozoic Warramunga Formation, although outcrop of this formation is limited to the southern part of the EL. Work during the second year of tenure consisted of magnetic modelling of the Juno North and South Argo magnetic bodies. Depth estimates to the tops of their magnetic sources were 340m and 400m respectively. These depths are seen as too deep to drill for the time being. The source of the South Argo magnetic anomaly appears to straddle the northern boundary of EL 9934, with the northern half being in Normandy's EL 8280. The area of shallow gold mineralisation intersected by previous Asarco, Geopeko and Giants Reef drilling in the area of GRJD-1, in what may be a haematitic shear zone, merits further attention by RAB drilling.
