Exploration for diamonds, base metals and gold was carried out over EL 7190. Thematic Mapper imagery and air photos were examined prior to the commencement of fieldwork. No anomalous features thought indicative of ultramafic intrusives were observed. Reconnaissance heavy mineral stream sediment sampling for diamonds was completed, and possible kimberlitic indicator minerals, mainly being spinels, were obtained. Infill samples confirmed the anomalous nature of a number of catchments. The indicator minerals are of low interest and probably being derived from a secondary source of Cretaceous sediments. The reconnaissance geochemical data revealed anomalous values, which were followed up by geochemical sampling in 1992 and in 1994. This work involved stream sediment BLEG and rock chip sampling. Results confirmed the anomalous values of the 1991 sampling. Percussion drilling followed in 1994 which revealed elevated Zn and Cu values in association with Ag and Mo in most holes. Percussion drilling continued in 1995, which has identified a high background of base metal values in the mid Velkerri Formation, which is thought to represent the source of the elevated values recorded to date. However results do not indicate a concentration of base matel values and the potential for proximal mineralisation is considered low.en_US
