Abstract

This report was prepared by Mining Management Services Pty Ltd for E. and K. Hore and Driffield Mining Pty Ltd to be presented to the Northern Territory Department of Mines and Energy as a record of the exploration carried out on Exploration Licence 5578 for the year ending 11th December 1988. Exploration Licence 5578 is located in the Pine Creek Geosyncline approximately ll0 kms south south east of Darwin and 25kms south east of Adelaide River. Access is via the Stuart Highway a distance of approximately 20kms south of Adelaide River and then via dirt tracks which initially follow the old railway line east for a distance of approximately lskms. The area is currently accessible by 4 x 4 wheel drive vehicles only during the dry season (March - November). The bulk of the licence area covers the west bank and alluvial flats, which surround the Howley Creek. The country is flat, black soil country with generally sparse vegetation. within 25Cm of the western margin of the licence the country rises and culminates in a series of ridges which rise 20m above the flats to the east. These ridges are on the boundary of the licence.
