dc.description.abstract | Work completed in the current program to 30 October 1988 includes evaluation of existing data, acquisition of Landsat imagery, colour air photography, aeromagnetic data and orthophotomap. Remote sensing data was computer enhanced and interpreted. Field work involved geological; mapping and geochemical sampling. Expenditure by the Joint Venture partners on EL 5486 to 30 October 1988 was $104,989.51. Evaluation of field sampling program is in progress. Preliminary assay results for gold and platinum are not encouraging. Base metal anomalies are consistent with: ultramafic intrusive minerology; economic grade mineralisation cannot be discounted. The significance of geochemical anomalies in other elements is currently being evaluated. Detailed aeromagnetic interpretation and modelling (1:10000 scale) of the largest ultramafic intrusion indicates that a layered lopolith model best fits the data and that inner rocks may be late differentiates and chemically different to the outer rim. Deep stratigraphic diamond drilling (greater than 800m vertical depth) is considered the most appropriate exploration technique to investigate PGE potential. Re-assessment of layered intrusive conceptual ideas/models of Mordor-style complexes is in progress. Current understanding of the Mordor Intrusive Complex suggests the present surface level is close to the top of the complex. The bulk of the mafic and intermediate rock types which, dominate the surf and do not extend very far to depth before giving way to ultramafic rocks. For this reason the geochemical evidence presently available cannot be i used to discount base metal and PCE potential in the ultramafic cummulates. Further consideration relating case study information from other mineralised ultrabasic complexes to targeting at least one deep diamond drill hole is clearly required. Drilling on the margins can also be considered to confirm narrowing or widening of the plug at depth. Further drilling would depend on these results. Stream sediment sampling should be conducted to investigate mineral fractions and diamond indicators. | en_US |
