Exploration for this year in EL2769 by Ken Day Pty Ltd was confined to the northern area of the licence where outcrops of the meta sedimentary sequence are present. The greatest area of interest was the contract between the upper member of the Koolpin Formation and the upper dolerite sill around the south easterly plunging anticline located in the north-west corner of the exploration licence. The contact is located near the base of a steep sided hill which consists of rocks of the upper member of the Koolpin Formation. Throughout the area the rock of the Zamu Dolerite has differentially weathered to give rise to topographic lows, leaving a rich red-brown soil which provided pathways for the drainage systems to follow. The drainage systems that converge on EL2769 form a creek that runs northwards along the upper dolerite sill and eventually finds its ways into the Yam Creek system. It was in the creek below the nose of the anticline that 3 medium colurs of gold were panned froma 61 sample of material taken from the creek bed. Further down stream another 2 very fine colours were panned from a 61 sample. This, coupled with evidence of minor workings on a quartz iron breccia gave rise to our interest in the structure found here. To this end 3 samples were taken from likely lithologies located on the hill here and only 1 returned an anomalous result. The anomalous result (0.22ppm Au) was obtained from a thin BIF Cossan (0.5m wide) located half way up the southern side of the hill. Two samples (0.03 ppm Au) were obtained from a nodular chert unit located on the apex of the hill. These are considered to be background levels for gold in the area. Further exploration consisted of our prospector spending 10 days traversing the area looking for favourable geology and further signs of old workings.en_US
