Progress report for Great Eastern Area NT.

Abstract

Exploration Licence No 4218, 'Great Eastern Area'; of 6 sub blocks totalling 19 sq km in the Pine Creek Geosyncline was granted to Dr. BN Douglass on the 20th May 1983. This EL is located in the north east quadrant of the Batchelor-Hayes Creek 1: 100, 000 sheet and is accessed by the Ringwood to Ban Ban Station road. This report documents the exploration programme undertaken since the last report by M. Rogers and Associates dated August 1984. During this period regional assessment work has proceeded including; Landsat lineament and structural interpretation at 1:250,000 scale, photogeological mapping at 1:25, 000 scale using colour aerial photographs, reconnaissance field checking of the photogeological interpretation, reconnaissance rock chip sampling of mineralised areas located, reporting, including recommendations for area reduction and forward programme. In EL 4218 some anomalous gold results were obtained from rock sampling during the limited programme. Photogeological interpretation and reconnaissance field mapping have indicated favourable structures (folds and possible shear zones) which require further prospecting. The proximity of Bundey 1 prospect to the area enhances its prospectivity. Appropriate application for area reduction for the EL have been made.
