Exploration License 2288 was granted to Australian Ores & Minerals Limited (AOM) on 24th April, 1980. AOM regards the area as potential for the presence of copper-gold-bismuth mineralisation in 'Tennant Creek?- type magnetic bodies. AOM also considers that stratiform deposits, especially of copper with associated gold are also not impossible. Both possibilities will be investigated. AOM has carried out an airborne magnetic and spectrometer survey over the area and the results are outlined in this report. The results of this survey are encouraging and further work is warranted. The survey area contains a high proportion (40-50%) of magnetic rocks which are presumed to belong to the Warramunga Group. There is evidence, from the radiometric data, of acid intrusive activity, particularly in the southern part of the area. The inferred complex folding of the rocks has made it difficult to select magnetic targets of the ?Tennant Creek type' in the central part of the area the latter should still be considered prospective for additional targets. There is some uncertainty that the area contains the right host rocks since the magnetic signatures could be consistent with the Archaean metamorphic basement. However this should be easy to check since the magnetic rocks are most shallow (<l00m).en_US
Fifteen magnetic anomalies have been selected as specific targets; three of these are grade 1 (T1, T2, T15) four are grade 2 (T5, T6, T11, T13) and eight are grade 3 (T3, T4, T7, T8, T9, T10, T12, T14).en_US
