Report on status Spring Hill disturbance and rehab works.

Abstract

Billiton Australia commenced work at Spring Hill in December 1988 and continued through until December 1991. Work programmes consisted of activities such as drilling, dozing, and costeaning which caused substantial disturbance to the environment. This report lists sites of substantial disturbance present at Spring Hill prior to December 1988, substantial disturbance and rehabilitation work by Billiton from December 1988 to December 1991, and any sites of substantial disturbance that remain to be rehabilitation. This rehabilitation work became the responsibility of Ross Mining in March 1992 with Billiton selling its 50% equity

to its joint venture partner. Documentation of sites of disturbance and rehabilitation works was carried out by Billiton continuously from July 1989 to December 1991. Documentation includes: a rehabilitation register with photographs depicting rehabilitation works and their effectiveness; several aerial photographs taken at various periods, ie. May 1989, August 1991, April 1992; and a video of sites of disturbances and rehabilitation progress taken in June 1992.
