At the commencement of the 1988 field season the various exploration targets were assessed and assembled in order of priority; Gold - Although there was no recorded gold production from the licence area, it was considered to have potential for gold mineralization. The licence has a favourable geological setting with quartz veined folded Burrell Creek Formation sediments occurring adjacent to a granite mass. In 1968 Geopeko reported gold assays from mine samples collected in the vicinity of Wolfram Hill tungsten mine ranging from 0.08-0.41 g/t Au. The samples were collected for possible Sn-Cu mineralization probably from the Irwin mine site. Tin - The price of tin has been depressed since the collapse of the I.T.C. and the release of the I.T.C. stocks onto world markets. Therefore exploration for tin during 1988 was of a preliminary nature, in view of the poor medium term nature of the tin market. Two targets were evaluated during the 1988 field season. The Kelly tin prospect within the Wolfram Hill Granite. It was thought that this may be a pegmatite Sn-Ta-Nb type occurrence or an aplite Sn-Nb-Ta type occurrence. Alternatively it was thought it could be a Sn-W03 greisen occurrence. Tungsten Deposits - No work was done on the tungsten deposits because of the fall in demand and price in the 1980's. An evaluation is planned for 1989. Base Metal Occurrences - The history of base metal occurrences in the region would suggest that poddy high grade deposits were the most likely target. Consequently exploration of the base metal occurrences were given low priority. Exploration Program; Gold - Samples were collected from various tin, tungsten and base metal occurrences as a preliminary method of following up the results of Geopeko's 1968 analysis results. A 2000m traverse was carried out in the western portion of the exploration licence with rock chip samples collected at 200m intervals and analysed for Au and As. Tin - The Hidden Valley Tin Deposits were individually mapped, channel sampled and assayed for Sn. Kelly's workings were found, mapped and sampled. Due to mechanical problems, Martins, Connells and Bell's deposits were not investigated although this had been planned. Tungsten - The Wolfram Hill and Mountain View sites were visited and the extent and nature of the tungsten mineralization examined. However no detailed work was undertaken. It would appear that the descriptions of pegmatite hosted tungsten mineralization at Mountain View is incorrect. The host appears to be brecciated quartz veining.en_US
